The Production Manager oversees the daily operations of printing production, ensuring that jobs are completed efficiently, on time, and to client specifications. This role involves coordinating personnel, equipment, and materials to meet production targets, quality standards, and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Planning & Scheduling:
Plan, schedule, and oversee all printing production activities.
Allocate resources and assign tasks to meet deadlines and customer requirements.
Monitor workflow and adjust as needed to ensure on-time delivery.
Team Management:
Supervise and lead production staff, including press operators, bindery staff, and support personnel.
Provide training, coaching, and performance evaluations.
Ensure compliance with safety and company policies.
Quality Control:
Ensure products meet quality standards and client specifications.
Address quality issues and implement corrective actions.
Collaborate with quality assurance teams to improve processes.
Equipment & Maintenance:
Oversee maintenance of printing machinery and equipment.
Schedule regular maintenance and troubleshoot equipment failures.
Work with vendors and technicians for repairs or upgrades.
Cost Management:
Monitor production budgets, labor costs, and waste.
Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
Control inventory of raw materials and supplies.
Client & Interdepartmental Communication:
Coordinate with sales, prepress, and customer service teams to ensure smooth job handoff and execution.
Communicate job status and potential issues promptly.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Printing Technology, Industrial Engineering, or related field (preferred).
3+ years of experience in print production, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
Strong understanding of offset, digital, flexographic, or screen printing processes.
Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Problem-solving mindset and ability to work under pressure.
Working Conditions:
Fast-paced print shop or manufacturing environment.
May require standing for long periods and working around printing equipment.
Occasional evening or weekend work to meet deadlines.
