The role of a Product Lead for the Refractive Surgery (LASIK) department in a leading eye hospital is a dynamic and strategic position. It requires a blend of business acumen, marketing expertise, and a solid understanding of the healthcare industry, specifically ophthalmology. This person is responsible for driving the growth and profitability of the hospital's LASIK and other refractive surgery services.

Key Responsibilities



The primary responsibilities of this role are centred around increasing patient volume, revenue, and brand reputation for the LASIK department. These include:

Planning and Business Growth:

Developing and executing a comprehensive business development strategy to grow the refractive surgery practice. This involves market analysis, identifying new opportunities, and setting sales targets.

Marketing and Promotion:

Work with marketing team and agencies for LASIK and other refractive surgeries. This includes:

Patient Education:

With guidance from doctors, create and disseminate educational content (brochures, videos, articles) that explains the benefits, risks, and different types of refractive surgeries (e.g., LASIK, SMILE, PRK).

Partnerships and Outreach:

Building and maintaining relationships with optometrists, general physicians, and other healthcare professionals who can refer patients. They may also organize and manage patient awareness campaigns and events.

Product Management:

Acting as the "product lead" for the LASIK department, which entails:

Market Research:

Staying updated on the latest advancements in refractive surgery technology, competitor offerings, and patient expectations.

Service Enhancement:

Collaborating with surgeons and other clinical staff to improve the patient experience, from the initial consultation to post-operative care. This could involve introducing new and / or refining existing processes.

Pricing Analysis:

Managing the pricing strategy for different procedures and analyzing the performance of the department to ensure profitability.

Sales and Patient Counseling:

Leading the Counselling Team:

Managing and training a team of patient counselors or consultants to effectively guide potential patients through the decision-making process.

Direct Patient Interaction:

Engaging with potential patients to address their concerns, explain the benefits of the procedures, and convert inquiries into appointments.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

Tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) such as patient conversion rates, revenue generation, and marketing return on investment (ROI). They are responsible for presenting these reports to the hospital's senior management.

Eligibility



Education:

A

bachelor's degree

in Medicine or Optometry or Business Administration or Marketing, or a related healthcare is a basic requirement. A

master's degree in business administration

(MBA) or Hospital Administration is highly preferred and often a requirement for a leadership role.

Experience:



A minimum of

5-10 years of experience

in business development, sales, or product management. Experience in the

healthcare / eye care or medical device industry

is essential. The candidate must have a clear understanding of the healthcare landscape, patient journey, and regulatory environment in India. Specific experience with

refractive surgery, ophthalmology, or surgical product sales

is a significant advantage.

Skills and Competencies:

A strong understanding of market dynamics, financial metrics, and strategic planning.

Communication Skills:

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with patients, doctors, and senior management.

Leadership:

The ability to lead and motivate a team of counselors and work collaboratively with clinical staff.

Marketing Expertise:

Proficiency in both traditional and digital marketing strategies.

Technical Knowledge:

A fundamental understanding of refractive surgery procedures, technology, and patient eligibility criteria is critical for credibility and effective communication.

A proven track record of achieving sales targets and driving business growth.
