The Pharmacy Assistant supports pharmacists in the day-to-day operations of the hospital pharmacy, including dispensing, stock management, and patient service. The role ensures smooth functioning of inpatient and outpatient pharmacy services by assisting with prescription processing, maintaining records, and ensuring medicines are available, properly stored, and dispensed under supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Inpatient Support
Assist in preparing and delivering medications to wards, ICUs, and operation theatres.
Organize and label unit-dose medications under pharmacist supervision.
Maintain patient medication records and assist in documentation.
Support timely availability of emergency and scheduled drugs.
Outpatient Support
Help process prescriptions and prepare medicines for pharmacist review.
Guide patients to the pharmacist for counselling and medication instructions.
Assist with billing, packaging, and handing over dispensed medicines.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized pharmacy counter.
General Responsibilities
Manage stock by receiving, arranging, and monitoring medicines and supplies.
Track expiry dates and remove near-expiry/damaged drugs as per protocol.
Support pharmacists in inventory counts and audits.
Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety, and hygiene standards.
Assist in administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, and report preparation.
Provide customer service by politely addressing patient queries and directing them appropriately.
Qualifications & Skills
Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) preferred; on-job trained candidates may also be considered.
Basic knowledge of medicines, dosages, and medical terminology.
Good organizational and record-keeping skills.
Ability to work under supervision and follow instructions accurately.
Customer service skills with polite and empathetic communication.
Attention to detail, reliability, and willingness to work in shifts.
