Job Description

Patient Care:

Assisting in the overall needs of patients in the unit and preparing planned nursing care. Demonstrating and supervising nursing care of patients. Attending regular rounds with medical and nursing personnel. Reviewing reports from senior staff regarding patient care. Providing counseling and health education to patients and their attendants.

Staff Management and Training:

Assisting in planning, organizing, and implementing staff development programs. Providing guidance and counseling to nursing staff. Arranging orientation programs for new nursing staff. Maintaining discipline among nursing personnel. Participating in staff education and meetings.

Administrative Duties:

Assisting the Nursing Superintendent with office work. Keeping the Nursing Superintendent informed of events in the wards. Attending official meetings. Maintaining confidential records of nursing personnel. Assisting in recruitment of nursing staff. Implementing policies pertaining to patient care in the unit. Verifying hospital stock, indents, maintenance, and condemnations. Maintaining discipline of nursing and domestic staff. Investigating and reporting complaints. Providing guidance and counseling to nursing staff. Participating in in-service education of nursing personnel.

Other Duties:

Implementing ward-teaching programs. Arranging classes and clinical teaching for student nurses. Ensuring clinical experience facilities for student nurses. Acting as public relations officer for the unit, dealing with issues related to patients and their attendants. Participating in various professional activities, including staff meetings and education. Acting as a liaison between the nursing department and higher hospital authorities. Carrying out other duties delegated by the Nursing Superintendent.
