Job Description

A mechanic assistant helps senior mechanics by performing routine maintenance, assisting with repairs, and keeping the workshop clean and organized. Key duties include changing fluids, replacing parts, and performing inspections, while also managing tools, parts, and keeping accurate records. Strong mechanical aptitude and physical stamina are required for the role. Responsibilities

Assisting mechanics:

Support senior mechanics during repairs by handing them tools, helping with disassembly and reassembly, and performing other tasks as needed.

Routine maintenance:

Perform standard services like oil and filter changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks.

Parts and inventory management:

Organize, receive, and deliver parts. Some roles may also require ordering parts and managing inventory.

Shop and equipment upkeep:

Keep the work area clean, tidy, and organized. This can include cleaning equipment and performing basic maintenance on the shop itself.

Inspections:

Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles and equipment to help identify potential problems.

Record keeping:

Maintain accurate logs of all maintenance and repairs performed.

Mechanical aptitude:

A fundamental understanding of automotive systems and components is essential.

Physical stamina:

The ability to lift, push, pull, and carry heavy objects is necessary for the role.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is often required. Some employers may prefer or require 6 months of basic maintenance experience. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record may be necessary. Some positions may require the ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
