The Assistant Manager - Protection Underwriting will be responsible for evaluating and managing the underwriting processes associated with life insurance policies. This role involves assessing risk and determining the pricing and terms of insurance applications to ensure they align with the company's risk appetite and underwriting guidelines. The candidate will collaborate closely with sales teams and act as a subject matter expert in risk assessment. Additionally, the role includes mentoring junior underwriters, participating in the development and implementation of underwriting policies, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The Assistant Manager will also analyze underwriting data and trends to recommend improvements in processes and practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Review and assess life insurance applications to determine the insurability of applicants.
Analyze medical and financial information to make informed underwriting decisions.
Collaborate with sales teams to provide support and guidance on underwriting queries.
Mentor and train junior underwriting staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
Ensure compliance with industry regulations and company policies throughout the underwriting process.
Prepare reports on underwriting performance and suggest improvements where necessary.
Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices in underwriting.
Skills and Tools Required:
Strong understanding of underwriting principles and practices in the insurance industry.
Proficient analytical skills to assess risk factors from various sources of information.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective collaboration.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Finance, Insurance, Business).
Previous experience in protection underwriting or related roles within the insurance industry is preferred.
Professional certification in underwriting (e.g., life insurance underwriting certification) is a plus.
