About the Role
The
Manager - PPC (Production Planning & Control)
is responsible for end-to-end production planning, scheduling, and control of manufacturing operations. The role ensures alignment between sales orders, material availability, production capacity, and dispatch commitments to achieve on-time delivery, optimal resource utilisation, and controlled inventory levels.
This position acts as a central coordination point between Production, Procurement, Stores, Quality, Sales, and Logistics teams, ensuring smooth execution of manufacturing plans and continuous improvement in planning processes.
Purpose of the Role
To plan, monitor, and control production operations by ensuring timely material availability, efficient utilisation of machines and manpower, and seamless execution of manufacturing orders in line with customer delivery timelines and organisational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, schedule, and control daily, weekly, and monthly production activities based on sales orders and delivery commitments.
Prepare production plans by considering machine capacity, manpower availability, and material readiness.
Release production orders, job cards, and routing details through ERP/MRP systems.
Track work-in-progress (WIP) and shop-floor execution against the production plan.
Monitor machine loading, order status, and manufacturing progress to ensure on-time completion.
Identify delays, bottlenecks, breakdowns, and material shortages and take corrective actions.
Coordinate closely with procurement and stores teams to ensure timely availability of raw materials, bought-out parts, and long-lead items.
Plan and process long-lead materials in advance to avoid delivery timeline slippages.
Monitor inventory levels to avoid shortages, excess stock, and slow-moving inventory.
Ensure optimal inventory turnover and controlled working capital.
Work closely with production, quality, sales, logistics, and dispatch teams for smooth execution of production plans.
Support dispatch planning and ensure finished goods availability as per customer delivery schedules.
Share chassis and manufacturing order details for tracking machines against sales and production orders.
Prepare and maintain PPC MIS reports including plan vs actual production, WIP status, order progress, and capacity utilisation.
Track production KPIs and analyse data to identify improvement opportunities.
Conduct daily operational meetings to review execution status, action items, and follow-ups.
Conduct monthly review meetings with departments to review performance, issues, and corrective actions.
Adjust production schedules based on changes in customer demand or production constraints.
Suggest improvements to reduce cycle time, eliminate bottlenecks, and improve productivity.
Ensure accurate documentation and records of all production planning and control activities.
Work closely with ground-level operational teams to ensure real-time coordination and execution.
Key Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of production planning, scheduling, routing, and capacity planning.
Hands-on experience with ERP/MRP systems and shop-floor tracking.
Good understanding of machining, fabrication, assembly processes, BOMs, and routing structures.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with data-driven decision-making ability.
Proficiency in Excel, MIS reporting, and PPC dashboards.
Excellent coordination, communication, and follow-up skills.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight delivery deadlines.
High attention to detail with a structured and process-oriented mindset.
Educational Qualification
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
Experience
Relevant experience in Production Planning & Control within a manufacturing environment (preferably engineering or heavy machinery).
