Job Summary

The EHS Assistant Manager - Manufacturing Plant is responsible for independently managing and implementing the Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Management System across manufacturing facilities. The role focuses on shop-floor safety, statutory compliance, risk management, and environmental performance while ensuring zero accidents, legal compliance, and continuous improvement. The position requires strong hands-on experience in manufacturing operations, contractor safety, audits, and regulatory coordination.
Key Responsibilities

1. EHS Management & Shop-Floor Safety
Implement and manage the EHS Management System across manufacturing operations and shop-floor activities.
Develop, implement, and enforce EHS policies, SOPs, work permits, and safe operating procedures for manufacturing processes.
Ensure daily safety compliance for production lines, utilities, maintenance, material handling, and contractor activities.
Conduct routine shop-floor inspections and ensure immediate corrective actions for unsafe conditions and acts.
2. Statutory Compliance & Regulatory Coordination
Ensure
100% compliance
with all applicable statutory requirements under the Factories Act, State Factory Rules, Environmental Protection Act, OSHA standards, and Pollution Control Board regulations.
Maintain all statutory licenses, permits, consents, and approvals for manufacturing operations.
Coordinate with government authorities during factory inspections, audits, and compliance reviews.
Prepare and submit statutory returns, compliance reports, and management dashboards to Corporate EHS.
3. Risk Assessment & Incident Management
Conduct
Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA)
and
Job Safety Analysis (JSA)
for manufacturing processes, machinery, maintenance, and non-routine activities.
Implement engineering, administrative, and PPE-based risk control measures.
Lead incident, near-miss, and unsafe condition investigations and perform root cause analysis (RCA).
Track non-conformities and ensure timely closure of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
4. Audits, Inspections & EHS Management Systems
Plan and conduct internal EHS audits, compliance inspections, and plant EHS reviews.
Ensure implementation and certification compliance with
ISO 14001 & ISO 45001
standards.
Support external audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections.
Monitor EHS KPIs and drive continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.
5. Training, Contractor Safety & Safety Culture
Conduct EHS induction training for employees, contractors, and visitors.
Deliver toolbox talks, machine safety training, confined space, hot work, and work-at-height safety training.
Ensure effective contractor safety management and permit-to-work systems.
Promote a strong safety culture and employee involvement in EHS initiatives.
6. Emergency Preparedness & Fire Safety
Develop, implement, and maintain on-site emergency response and disaster management plans.
Conduct mock drills for fire, chemical spill, and medical emergencies.
Ensure adequacy, inspection, and maintenance of firefighting systems, alarms, and emergency equipment.
Coordinate with local fire authorities and emergency response teams.
7. Environmental Management & Sustainability
Manage environmental compliance related to waste management, hazardous waste, effluent treatment, air emissions, and noise control.
Monitor energy and water consumption and support conservation initiatives.
Ensure compliance with Pollution Control Board consents and environmental monitoring requirements.
Drive sustainability and environmental improvement projects within the manufacturing plant.
Key Skills & Competencies

In-depth knowledge of Factory Act & industrial safety regulations
Expertise in HIRA, JSA, machine safety, and contractor safety
Experience with ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 implementation and audits

Effective communication, training, and leadership skills
* Proficient in MS Office and EHS reporting systems
