We are seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Assistant Fashion Designer to join our production unit. The role involves combining customer understanding, design innovation, and production practicality to develop garments that reflect both creativity and commercial appeal. You will work closely with the design lead, pattern masters, and production team to ensure smooth coordination from design concept to finished sample.
Key Responsibilities
1. Customer-Centric Design
Understand customer preferences, lifestyle needs, and feedback to create designs that are relevant and desirable.
Translate customer insights into product ideas that are both trendy and functional. Support in developing customized design solutions for special orders, ensuring they align with the Kalyan Silks brand identity.
Work with retail and sales teams to incorporate ongoing customer feedback into design development.
2. Trend & Market Research
Study market trends, silhouettes, fabrics, and color directions relevant to our collections.
Prepare trend, mood, and color boards for seasonal guidance.
Benchmark competitors to understand new product opportunities.
3. Design & Product Development
Create sketches, illustrations, and CADs for new product ideas.
Develop fabric and color stories suitable for production capabilities.
Assist in creating tech packs, measurement charts, and sample documentation.
Ensure designs are both creative and production-feasible within cost parameters.
4. Pattern & Sampling Coordination
Work closely with pattern masters and tailors to translate designs accurately into patterns.
Participate in fit trials and sample corrections.
Track and maintain all sample records from proto to final approval.
5. Fabric & Material Coordination
Coordinate with vendors for fabric sourcing, trims, and accessories.
Assess fabric quality, performance, and availability for bulk orders.
Ensure timely material sourcing for sampling and production.
6. Production Support
Collaborate with the production floor to ensure that design integrity is maintained through cutting, stitching, and finishing.
Conduct basic quality checks for fit, color, and finishing consistency.
Support documentation and approvals during production handover.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor's/Diploma in Fashion Design, Apparel Design, or Garment Technology.
1-3 years of experience in
design or product development (preferably woven/ethnicwear).
Good understanding of pattern making, garment construction, and fabrics.
Software knowledge: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or CorelDRAW.
Strong coordination, observation, and communication skills.
Eye for detail, time management, and adaptability to factory timelines.
