Due to strong and sustained growth in our Sustainable Water Management business, we are looking for an Assistant Engineer who has experience in the delivery of Water EIA projects, including some familiarity with the suite of water and flood risk related disciplines to work collaboratively on technically complex projects for a range of clients. It is also desirable for the candidate who has experience in the delivery of flood risk assessment projects to work collaboratively on technically complex projects for a range of clients.
You will contribute to a diverse range of projects and the main focus of your work is likely to be Flood Risk Assessment for major infrastructure projects in the UK and overseas, with wider involvement in flood modelling, flood management and Water EIA as appropriate to individual experience. You will also contribute to a diverse range of projects including EIA and associated appendices including FRA, WFD and environmental permit applications for major infrastructure projects in the UK and overseas. Sharing your technical expertise and mentoring more junior members in the team will also be part of your role.
Working as part of our global team, the successful candidate will also be able to work seamlessly across other technical areas within the Sustainable Water Management team. This includes but is not limited to flood risk modelling, LLFA technical services and flood management solutions; as well as other water environment technical areas including Water EIA, WFD assessment, permitting applications, geomorphology and BNG.
Perform project tasks assigned by senior team members
Carrying out flood risk assessments and preparing deliverables.
Supporting complementary projects and developing skills in areas such as sustainable drainage design, planning application reviews, preparing Local Flood Risk Management Strategies, permitting applications, and environmental assessments
Taking leadership of certain project management activities including financial and programme management.
Carry out environmental assessment of surface water resources and preparing deliverables such as the Water chapter of EIA Screening and Scoping reports and Environmental Statements, WFD assessments, geomorphology assessments, water quality and FRAs.
Complete biodiversity net gain assessments for river habitats (training can be provided if this is an area of interest).
Support environmental permit applications.
Communicate and liaise effectively and efficiently with the project team (both the Sustainable Water Management team and the wider business)
Work collaboratively within the team and proactively supporting junior staff in developing their technical knowledge and understanding of tasks assigned.
Masters Degree in Water Resources Engineering or equivalent.
Some prior experience of flood risk based projects, preferably with exposure to standards and specifications in the UK Water Industry. A Minimum of 2 years industry experience is desirable.
Experience of Flood Risk Assessment preparation, and experience in one or more of the typical supporting skills including flood risk modelling, flood risk strategy development, drainage design or Water EIA, at least some of which should have been in consultancy.
Experience of providing technical inputs for planning and permitting for major infrastructure projects. This could include preparation of FRA and Water EIA inputs to planning applications, supporting DCO examinations or planning inquiries, and developing applications for environmental permits.
Knowledge of the regulatory context for flood risk planning in the UK.
Experience working in Water EIA including Scoping and ES preparation and experience in one or more of the typical supporting appendices including flood risk assessment, water quality, geomorphology, BNG and WFD assessments.
Experience of providing technical inputs for planning and permitting for major infrastructure projects. This could include preparation of Water EIA, FRA and WFD inputs to planning applications, supporting DCO examinations or planning inquiries, and developing applications for environmental permits.
Some knowledge of the regulatory context for planning and EIA in the UK.

Some experience in supporting project management.
Ability to proactively communicate and take support on technical issues from senior colleagues, ability in collaborating with other design disciplines on multi-disciplinary projects.
