The Area Sales Manager (ASM) - Fertilizer is responsible for driving sales growth, developing distribution networks, and implementing sales strategies within the assigned territory. This role involves managing field teams, engaging with dealers/distributors, conducting farmer outreach, and ensuring the achievement of sales and collection targets.
Key Responsibilities1. Sales & Revenue Growth
Achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual fertilizer sales targets in the assigned area.
Identify new business opportunities to increase market share.
Monitor competitor activities and market trends; provide inputs to management.
2. Channel Development & Management
Appoint, train, and support distributors, dealers, and retailers.
Ensure adequate stock availability and proper product display across the channel.
Maintain strong relationships with channel partners to increase product penetration.
3. Team Management
Lead, train, and motivate Field Officers / Sales Executives.
Ensure team productivity through regular field visits, joint farming demonstrations, and team reviews.
Provide coaching on sales techniques, product knowledge, and customer engagement.
4. Farmer & Influencer Engagement
Conduct farmer meetings, field demonstrations, crop seminars, and promotional activities.
Build relationships with progressive farmers, agri-influencers, FPOs, and local agricultural institutions.
Promote product awareness and technical usage support to end-users.
5. Demand Generation & Marketing Execution
Execute marketing campaigns, product launches, and promotional events.
Collaborate with the marketing team for campaign feedback and improvement.
Ensure brand visibility across the region.
6. Operational & Administrative Responsibilities
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly sales reports.
Monitor credit limits, ensure timely payment collections from channel partners.
Maintain compliance with company policies, pricing guidelines, and regulatory norms.
Key Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of fertilizers, crop nutrition, soil sciences, and agri-input markets.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to lead teams and manage large territories.
Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Education:
B.Sc. Agriculture / M.Sc. Agriculture preferred; MBA in Agri-Business or Marketing is an advantage.
