Job Description

A Civil Architect, or Architect, designs and oversees the construction of buildings and infrastructure, ensuring projects are safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing while adhering to building codes and regulations. Key Responsibilities of an Architect:

Design and Planning:

Develop architectural plans, designs, and drawings for buildings and infrastructure. Create floor plans, site plans, elevations, and 3D models. Conceptualize and record commercial and industrial construction projects. Ensure designs comply with building codes, safety regulations, and local zoning laws.

Client Communication and Collaboration:

Work with clients to understand their needs and preferences. Discuss ideas, materials, costs, and timelines with clients. Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and other professionals.

Project Management:

Supervise construction projects to ensure they are built according to plans. Manage projects from inception to execution. Visit construction sites to check on progress. Prepare instructions for construction and engineering teams.

Technical Expertise:

Draft plans by hand and using computer-aided design (CAD) software. Prepare detailed drawings showing both the appearance and interior structure of a building project. Provide technical and aesthetic advice on the design of infrastructures.

Other Responsibilities:

Prepare bids, contracts, and planning applications. Maintain and organize permission paperwork. Develop initial estimates on structure costs, building time, and special requirements. Direct staff in the development of project drawings, studies, and budgets. Prepare work contracts for building subcontractors.
