Description

The Application Development Engineer will lead coating process development and procedures for application across a variety of product lines to achieve improved performance. They will also lead small-scale in-house production activities for select customers. In addition, they will coordinate the design, execution and analysis of deposition processes and testing and lead new customer testing and implementation of products onto customer production lines.

The Application Development Engineer will be expected to lead technical services around applying coatings for each customer use case including using appropriate project planning, troubleshooting, experimental design and other tools to drive performance improvements. During product development, the Application Development Engineer will work closely across functional areas and locations to bring new products from lab to manufacturing scale to customer production lines in a timely and cost-effective manner.

The Application Development Engineer will also support proprietary retrofit application technology for in-field deployment in India including:

Prepare schedules for annual coating projects in coordination with US teams

Coordinate with clients on proper application and testing of projects.

Coordinate with North American and European teams to share best practices and manage overall equipment and product deployment.

Key Responsibilities and Description

The Application Development Engineer will:

Development of coating and curing processes for coatings in customer production lines across a variety of deposition methods

Development of scale-up procedures with customers.

Design, execute, and analyze multi-factor experiments.

Provide clear written and verbal direction to customers.

Participate in cross functional team reviews to ensure existing equipment matches the needs of future product lines.

Communicate results and provide recommendations of engineering tests; ability to community across a variety of teams and backgrounds (upper management, R&D engineers, technicians, and clients)

Lead small-scale in-house production for customers.

Lead compliance with industry environmental, quality, and safety standard

Standardization and memorialization of deposition SOPs across products and clients

Skills and Capabilities of a Successful Candidate

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following characteristics:

Experience with wet coating applications, drying/curing equipment, and related operations.

Complete understanding of the Glass manufacturing process

Mechanical aptitude with willingness for hands on equipment trouble shooting, problem solving and upgrades, including with patented robotic applicators for retrofit field deployment

Experience with data analyses

Ability to coordinate and execute multi-factor experiments in a manufacturing production environment.

Strong organizational and communication skills across a variety of teams and backgrounds

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with senior clients

Education and Other Requirements

12-15 years of experience in Coating applications / Glass Industry experience

Graduate / Engineering degree a plus

Preferred Experience:

Process and equipment knowledge of multiple coating methods (roll, curtain, spray, dip, etc.)

Solvent and water-based solution knowledge

Mechanical design, installation, and troubleshooting

Experience in a Glass Industry manufacturing environment

Experience using heavy equipment, in fabrication, in welding, in electronics, or in wiring.

Valid passport and ability to travel internationally.

Physical Requirements

Ability to take trials and handle equipment's during the trials.

Ability to lift up to 25kg. on an occasional basis.

Ability to comply with all safety standards and procedures.

Valid driving license with good driving record

Ability to pass background and drug tests

Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to: steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards)
