Description:
CTG is seeking to fill an Application Developer - Open Source position for our client.
Location: Remote
Duration: 12 months
Duties:
Develop, support, and maintain applications using open-source development platforms and technologies, with a primary focus on Python for real-time and socket-based applications.
Design, implement, and troubleshoot real-time streaming and communication solutions leveraging multimedia frameworks such as GStreamer.
Work with SIP, RTP, and G.711 codec behaviors to support media transport, streaming, and voice/data applications.
Collaborate with domain architects to prioritize and implement strategies aligned with the architectural roadmap and technical design standards.
Analyze, diagnose, and resolve complex technical issues across application, system, and network layers.
Partner with cross-functional teams to design, build, and integrate scalable, high-performance solutions.
Seek and incorporate direct end-user feedback to identify product requirements and enhancement opportunities, translating insights into clear technical recommendations.
Provide technical guidance and support related to open-source platform implementation, customization, and integration.
Contribute to CI/CD processes and ensure code quality, reliability, and maintainability in a Linux-based environment.
Skills:
Strong proficiency in Python, particularly for real-time data processing and socket programming.
Experience with GStreamer or similar multimedia frameworks.
Solid understanding of SIP, RTP, and G.711 codec behavior.
Familiarity with WebSocket protocols and streaming architectures.
Knowledge of buffering, jitter, and latency management in real-time systems.
Strong Linux systems knowledge and basic networking skills.
Exposure to CI/CD pipelines (GitLab preferred).
AI integration experience, including WebSocket communication and interfacing with AI services (e.g., OpenAI), is beneficial.
Nice to Have:
Experience with OpenTelemetry or similar observability frameworks.
Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
Prior experience integrating AI/ML services (e.g., OpenAI APIs).
Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for media streaming and transport.
Familiarity with C/C++ for low-level debugging, GStreamer core work, or open-source contributions.
Experience:
Demonstrated experience developing and supporting applications on open-source platforms (e.g., Python, C/C++, Perl, Node.js, Django).
Hands-on experience with real-time or streaming systems and network-based communication protocols.
Experience collaborating with architects and cross-functional teams in an Agile or similar development environment.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required.

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $50.00 to $120.00/hour. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, market factors, and where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained.
