Job Description

The role of an AOD Second Hand (often titled Technician or Operator) in a steel manufacturing company involves assisting the AOD Shift Incharge or Melter in operating the Argon Oxygen Decarburization (AOD) furnace to refine molten metal, primarily for producing stainless and alloy steels.
Key Responsibilities

• Operational Assistance: Support the AOD Melter or Incharge with day-to-day operations and production planning for the AOD and continuous casting machine (CCM) sections.
• Material Handling and Charging: Assist in the timely charging of various raw materials and ferroalloys into the AOD vessel to achieve desired steel composition standards.
• Process Monitoring: Keep constant vigilance over the AOD process, including monitoring equipment, indicators, and the furnace condition during each heat cycle.
• Quality Control Support: Check liquid metal samples and report the analysis to the Incharge for further additions or process adjustments.
• Maintenance Coordination: Coordinate with the maintenance team regarding equipment health, minor breakdowns, and the condition of the furnace and ladle lining to ensure smooth operations.
• Safety and Standards: Ensure adherence to standard operating practices and safety protocols within the plant.
• Reporting: Run tests and complete reports on production performance and process analysis.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Experience: Typically 3-7 years of relevant work experience in a steel plant, specifically in AOD or furnace operations.
• Education: A diploma or B.E. in Metallurgy or a related field is often preferred.
• Technical Skills: Basic technical skills to understand machinery and equipment, along with computer aptitude for monitoring and reporting software.
• Soft Skills:

• Strong oral communication and interpersonal abilities for coordinating across shifts and departments.
• Proficiency in problem-solving and decision-making within the scope of the role.
• Ability to work in a demanding, hands-on industrial environment and adapt to new challenges.
