Functional Description

The Risk Oversight organization within Global Risk and Compliance (GRC) is responsible for identifying and managing risk across all processes and geographies at American Express.

We are seeking experienced Risk and compliance professionals who want to be a part of the evolution for the next generation of risk management.

Incumbent will be part of Enterprise Risk Management team, American Express Banking Corp., India within the GRC organization and will roll into the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) team of AEBC India. The incumbent will support the regulatory exam management , residual risk assessment and associated activities for the Bank.

The incumbent will work with a team of risk professionals in India and also manage interactions with the regulator and auditors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the manager in providing guidance to business units on regulatory matters and interpretation of guidelines issued by the regulator as needed.
  • Conduct regulatory scan of applicable regulations around safety and soundness aspects
  • Maintain repository of regulatory interactions and provide oversight on responses from 1st line teams on matters relating to safety and soundness of AEBC (the Bank)
  • Review closure of regulatory management action plans ,challenging 1st line teams and providing recommendations
  • Manage the Policy framework tool for AEBC and ensure effective implementation of Policy On Policies management framework
  • Review Policies relating to safety and soundness aspects of the Bank and provide feedback to 1st line teams to ensure effective governance and control.
  • Measure, monitor risk metrics against thresholds (including RAF metrics) and report escalations in case of breaches and work with different stakeholders to determine remedial action where necessary.
  • Lead /support independent second line reviews of operational risk areas such as disputes, customer complaints etc.
  • Understand regulatory guidelines, processes at Banks end across credit risk, operational risk , liquidity , ALM and other areas to contribute effectively to the regulatory change management meetings, policy reviews and advise/opine as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:

Technical Skills / Experience:
  • 2+ years of regulatory compliance/internal audit/ Enterprise risk management in banking / consulting (banking clients);
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Good knowledge of RBI regulations, Indian banking laws and practices.
  • Ability to work with regulators, law enforcement, business partners and Agents.
Strong problem solving and analytical skills including the ability to conceptualize and break down complex issues into actionable tasks. * Understanding of risk assessment methodologies, frameworks and industry standards would be preferred
  • Advanced degree in economics, business, banking from a premier institute would be preferred or CA/CS/LLB/MBA would be preferred

  • Excellent relationship and influence management skills with the ability to build productive relationships across leadership levels and teams;
  • Self-confident with a strong sense of integrity and the ability and willingness to challenge and be challenged
  • Proactive in identifying issues, delivering and escalating key findings, and advising on recommended solutions to correct issues or mitigate risks;
  • Ability to communicate oversight findings to colleagues, business partners, and senior leaders;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong external perspective and intellectual curiosity
