An Anesthesia Technician's job involves supporting anesthesiologists by preparing, maintaining, and sterilizing anesthesia equipment and supplies for surgical procedures. Key responsibilities include setting up the anesthesia machine, managing patient monitoring equipment, assisting with patient care, monitoring vital signs, and performing routine equipment cleaning and maintenance. The role requires strong attention to detail, a solid understanding of medical terminology, the ability to work effectively under pressure, and often certification in the field.
Key Responsibilities
1. Equipment Management: Prepare, maintain, and test anesthetic machines, intravenous pumps, and other specialized equipment.
2. Supply Management: Manage inventory, order, and stock all necessary anesthesia drugs and supplies, ensuring availability for procedures.
3. Patient Monitoring: Assist in applying and monitoring vital signs equipment, such as ECG, blood pressure cuffs, and pulse oximeters, to assess the patient's condition.
4. Procedure Support: Provide direct support to the anesthesia provider during procedures, assisting with tasks like intubation, holding oxygen masks, and handing equipment.
5. Sterilization and Cleaning: Perform cleaning and sterilization of all equipment and supplies according to established protocols to ensure a safe and sterile operating room environment.
6. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records related to anesthesia administration and equipment usage for each patient.
7. Emergency Support: Be prepared to assist the medical team quickly and effectively during anesthesia-related emergencies.
Required Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent is a minimum requirement.
Certification: Certification as an Anesthesia Technician is preferred.
Experience: Min 1 to 2 yrs Experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in an operating room environment, is highly beneficial.
Skills:
Strong understanding of medical terminology and anesthesia practices, excellent organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively under pressure are essential.
