We are looking for a highly skilled Software Engineer with a deep understanding of algorithms and mathematics to design, develop, and deploy calibration and test instrumentation software and algorithms for Apple's world class products. This role will focus on developing robust, high-performance software solutions, processing sensor data, and leveraging advanced analytical techniques, including AI/ML, to ensure the success of current and future Apple products.

Description

You will be responsible for the design, development, and optimization of software and algorithms for automated instrumentation to calibrate and test Apple's products through NPI and mass production.



Knowledge, coupled with experience in designing software and algorithms for calibration and test solutions in motion, optical, camera and touch sensing technology, with a focus on data acquisition, signal processing, and control logic. Architect robust and scalable software systems (including software architecture, API design, and data flow) and maintain those systems through production. Work with our mechanical engineering team to define software interfaces and control logic for required mechanical fixtures & automation systems. Develop, debug, and optimize automation software, including complex algorithms, data processing pipelines, and user interfaces. Run software simulations/models and DOEs to make data driven decisions & presenting to management, especially for algorithm validation and performance prediction. Analyze large amounts of data generated from your instrument systems and embrace data-driven approaches to solving engineering challenges, including applying statistical methods and machine learning techniques. Perform software and system-level failure mode root cause analysis and resolution, debugging from the system level down to software components and algorithms. Collaborate with cross-functional teams like module design, system EE, product design, firmware, operations, and logistics teams, providing software expertise and integrating solutions. Frequent interactions with contract manufacturers/vendors; developing software deployment strategies, test scripts, and documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

Self-motivated, self-reliant, and confident in working independently in a challenging factory environment. The following skills are not necessary for consideration, but will be considered a plus:



Master's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field.

5+ years of professional experience in complex software and algorithm development for precision measurement or control systems.

Proven experience with AI/ML techniques (e.g., supervised/unsupervised learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning) and relevant frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn) for data analysis, anomaly detection, or predictive modelling.

Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded software development.

Experience with data science tools and libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, MATLAB).

Understanding of test principles, GRR, experience with test automation and optimization from a software and algorithmic perspective.

Experience in high volume consumer electronics manufacturing software systems.

Strong analytical/problem solving skills and ability to manage many priorities across multiple disciplines.

Multitasking on multiple challenging projects that have tight schedules

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field.

3+ years professional experience (or equivalent) in developing high-performance software and algorithms for electro-mechanical/Robotic systems or scientific instrumentation.

Exceptional programming skills in one or more of the following: C/C++/Objective-C, along with scripting knowledge (Python, Lua). Demonstrated ability to write clean, efficient, and well-documented code.

Deep understanding of mathematical concepts including linear algebra, calculus, statistics, numerical methods, and optimization techniques.

Working knowledge of consumer electronics modules like transducers/ sensors (light/force/pressure/touch/motion) from a data acquisition and signal processing perspective.

Experience analyzing and processing large data sets using programmatic methods and statistical tools.
