What does a great "OpenShift Platform Engineer" do?
As an OpenShift Platform Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to design, deploy, and maintain containerized OpenShift platform. You will work with cross-functional teams to ensure that applications and systems are scalable, reliable, and secure.
What you will do
Design, develop, and maintain a robust, scalable, and secure internal Kubernetes/Container platform that supports the deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications.
Develop and maintain automation scripts, tools, and documentation to streamline deployment and management processes.
Ensure platform stability and performance by proactively monitoring system metrics, troubleshooting issues, and optimizing resources.
Implement observability solutions, such as monitoring, logging, and tracing tools, to gain valuable insights into platform performance and application behavior.
Provide technical guidance and support to development teams, helping them adopt the Kubernetes platform and improve their application deployment and management capabilities.
You will be on call on rotation basis and expected to handle unexpected incidents.
This will involve creating and managing Kubernetes objects, configuring networking, and ensuring high availability.
Working with cross-functional teams: You will collaborate with developers, architects, and project managers to ensure that solutions are delivered on time, within budget, and meet business requirements.
Ensuring security and compliance: You will be responsible for ensuring that solutions are secure and compliant with industry standards and regulations.
This will involve implementing security controls, performing vulnerability assessments, and creating documentation.
Continuously learning and improving: You will stay up to date with OpenShift services and best practices. You will be responsible for maintaining the container platform which consists of other Container Technologies like Tanzu Application Services, Tanzu Kubernetes Grid, AKS etc., and continuously improve your skills and knowledge through training and certification programs.
Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies related to Kubernetes, containerization, and observability to drive continuous improvement and innovation within the platform.
What you will need to have:
At least 4 years of experience in OpenShift Engineering including some public cloud experience..
Experience in platform engineering, infrastructure automation, SRE, or a similar role.
Understanding of Kubernetes architecture, concepts, and components, with hands-on experience in building and managing Kubernetes platforms in production environments.
End-to-end Implementation of the Kubernetes architecture - installation, configuration, hardening, networking, etc.
Proficiency in a procedural or scripting programming language (examples: python, Go)
Experienced with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery principles (examples: Github Actions, Concourse, ArgoCD, Jenkins).
Experience designing and deploying containerized applications on Kubernetes.
Experience with automation tools, such as Helm, Terraform, Ansible and Azure DevOps.
Understanding of security and compliance best practices.
Familiarity with observability best practices and tools, such as Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK Stack.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
This will involve implementing security controls, performing vulnerability assessments, and creating documentation.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Kubernetes certifications are desirable (e.g. Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)).
Experience with service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio or Linkerd).
