The PLC Advance Systems Engineer implements multiple electrical projects as the Lead Engineer and is responsible for planning, reporting and management of the project, in addition to designing, developing, & implementing PLC software projects as Lead Control Engineer and shall work independently for an integrated system or sub-system.
This role spans from coding and commissioning to technical management and reporting, ensuring projects meet scope, budget, and timeline requirements.
The Advance Systems Engineer takes full ownership for all automation and controls aspects of assigned projects. This role involves planning, executing, and delegating tasks across the entire project lifecycle, ensuring seamless integration of automation systems. The engineer proactively coordinates and forecasts resource requirements--both in-house and on-site, which includes collaboration with other cross-functional teams. By leveraging expertise in automation technologies, the Controls Automation Engineer drives project success through effective leadership, technical oversight, and continuous process improvement.
The engineer takes a holistic approach in understanding core design features, project elements, overall network architecture, control design requirement and manages the scope, budget, schedule, maintaining internal and external customer expectations throughout the project life cycle. The Engineer manages program requirements and associated documentation, as well as maintain all technical program communications with customers and drives product and project execution improvements and continuous improvement efforts.
Apply prescriptive methodology to project tasks
Collaborate with other functional engineering teams (Mechanical, Electrical, Software etc.)
Execute project tasks, Provides planning, reporting, and technical management of the project for the PLC Controls Engineering portion.
Acts as the Lead Engineer or as an Engineering Team Member, handling multiple projects with little or no supervision.
Demonstrates and recognizes project success from multiple levels of financial, technical, and timeline management responsibilities.
Maintains internal and external customer expectations throughout the project life cycle.
Acts as technical interface with customers, establishing professional relationships to ensure that the project requirements are fully defined and agreed.
Ensure that the engineered solution meets project requirements in terms of functionality, standards, quality, and supporting documentation and implementation process at minimum cost by allocating work assignments to project team fully utilizing standard builds & standardized work
Proactively recommends potential quality and efficiency improvements within the engineering group
Shares technical knowledge with project team, supervisor, own discipline and other engineering disciplines
Actively contributes to the pre-engineering phase of a project. As such, identify with the customer which information is required before project starts.
Assist sales organizations in defining and estimating the engineering/technical scope of work.
Assist project manager in defining and estimating the engineering/technical change of work.
Supports and consultants C&E; attends software concept and customer review meetings
Supports and consults Sales and Marketing; provides guidance relative to base/standard products, documentation, and user guides available
Leads the development and documentation of standard PLC Base Code design logic: i.e., development of standard logic subroutines, AOI's, and UDT's for frequently implemented applications; documents PLC logic standards using the application guide format; working with all levels of PLC Controls Engineers to help resolve logic issues and roll logic improvements into the standards.
Attends all project related turnover meetings & functional design reviews, as requested
Attends all customer related approval meetings - as requested
Monitors/audits PLC code reviews and QA activities in line with project requirements and standards
Creates PLC Base Code test plans for all new R & D Code development efforts for In-House, Site, Commissioning, and Acceptance testing.
Contributes to project lessons learned post-mortem engineering review, providing PLC Base Code expertise and historical perspective
May be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned
Prepare or update reports and documentation
Attends weekly team meetings; reviews scheduled tasks/timelines
Work independently on automation projects for material handling, warehouse systems
Develop and implement PLC code for the material handling equipment
Review AutoCAD layouts and schematics to program the PLC system
Test PLC prototypes internally and on site for new/changes in the project
Assess programming and commissioning methods to ensure those meet the Intelligrated Coding standards
Executes all test plans on-site, both internal and customer acceptance/BUAT/UAT/FAT
Monitors and works from project tasks lists and timelines; reports progress on a regular basis
YOU MUST HAVE-
Bachelor's Degree in Electronics/Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering
Minimum of 7-8 years of Controls Engineering Experience in a similar profile
Leadership experience (Project Lead, Team Lead, or similar)
Experience leading a program or multiple projects at one time.
Ability and willingness to site travel up 70-80% of the time.
Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Programming and Electrical Design of:
+ Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff Programmable Logic Controllers
+ Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) setup, configuration and programming.
+ Understanding and experience working with various Network Protocols.
+ Warehouse control system software interface and protocols
+ Human-machine Interface system design, AB-Panel View.
Scanner and Machine vision system interface
