Key Responsibilities
Active Directory engineer's responsibilities extend beyond daily administration and troubleshooting to include architecture, security, and project leadership.
Advanced Troubleshooting and Support: Act as the highest escalation point for complex issues related to AD, Group Policy Objects (GPOs), LDAP, DNS, and replication.
Infrastructure Design and Architecture: Plan, design, and implement robust Active Directory architectures, including multi-forest and multi-domain environments. This also includes designing and supporting hybrid identity solutions using Azure AD Connect.
Security Management: Enforce and enhance AD security through the implementation of policies, auditing, and tools. This involves managing Privileged Identity Management (PIM), Conditional Access policies, and securing the on-premise AD environment.
Automation and Scripting: Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts for automating routine tasks, reporting, and bulk management of users, groups, and GPOs.
Project Leadership: Lead and participate in large-scale projects such as AD migrations, domain consolidations, and major upgrades.
Capacity Planning and Performance Tuning: Monitor and optimize the performance and capacity of AD domain controllers and related services to ensure high availability and reliability.
Documentation: Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and run books for all AD-related processes and configurations.

Skills and Qualifications
Active Directory Management requires the below mentioned set of technical and soft skills.
Technical Expertise:
o Expert-level knowledge of Active Directory (AD DS), Azure AD, Group Policy (GPO), and DNS.
o Proficiency with PowerShell scripting for automation and administration.
o Strong understanding of identity management, including SSO, Federation (ADFS), and MFA.
o Familiarity with related technologies like PKI, LDAP, and Kerberos.
o Experience with monitoring and security tools
Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills to perform root cause analysis (RCA) on highly complex issues.
Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with other IT teams (e.g., networking, security, cloud) and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Experience: Typically requires 6-10 years of experience in Active Directory administration, with a significant portion at a senior level.
Certifications: Relevant certifications such as are highly desirable AD Certification/ MCSE etc.
Total years of experience. Powershell commands etc handson experience.
