Job Summary:
The Accounts Manager will oversee the full spectrum of financial and accounting operations for a jewelry business. This includes managing daily accounting functions, ensuring compliance with tax and audit requirements, controlling costs, optimizing cash flow, and providing accurate financial reporting. The role requires strong industry knowledge, particularly in inventory valuation, hallmarking processes, and precious metal/gemstone accounting.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Management & Reporting
Oversee daily accounting operations including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, bank reconciliations, and petty cash.
Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Manage cash flow, working capital, and budget forecasting.
Ensure accurate valuation of gold, diamonds, gemstones, and finished jewelry inventory.
2. Costing & Inventory Control
Develop and maintain product costing systems (including metal weight, stone cost, and making charges).
Monitor stock movements, wastage, and melting losses.
Coordinate with production and store teams to ensure inventory accuracy.
3. Compliance & Audit
Ensure compliance with local accounting standards, GST/VAT, TDS, and other statutory requirements.
Liaise with auditors, tax consultants, and government authorities during audits and inspections.
Implement internal financial controls to safeguard company assets.
4. Team Leadership
Supervise and train accounting staff.
Review work to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with company policies.
Coordinate with management on financial strategy and planning.
5. ERP & Systems
Manage and optimize accounting and ERP systems (e.g., Tally ERP, Navision, SAP, or customized jewelry ERP).
Generate management reports and financial dashboards for decision-making.
6. Business Support
Partner with sales, procurement, and production departments to align financial performance with business goals.
Conduct margin analysis and provide insights to improve profitability.
Handle vendor payments, customer credit control, and banking relationships.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce; CA / CPA / CMA preferred.
Experience:
Minimum 10 years of experience in accounting, with at least 5 years in the jewelry or luxury goods industry.
Strong understanding of precious metal and gemstone accounting.
Proficiency in Tally ERP, MS Excel, and financial reporting tools.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
Integrity, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
Preferred Attributes:
Experience in both wholesale and retail jewelry environments.
Knowledge of import/export documentation for jewelry and raw materials.
Exposure to international accounting standards and foreign currency transactions.
