The Accounts Head will be responsible for leading and managing the entire finance and accounts function of the educational institute and society. The role requires strong expertise in statutory compliance, fund management, audits, budgeting, and financial reporting, particularly in the context of educational institutions and non-profit societies.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management & Control
Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including ledger scrutiny, vouchers, cash/bank management, and reconciliations.
Ensure accurate maintenance of books of accounts as per applicable accounting standards.
Monitor cash flow, fund utilization, and working capital requirements.
Establish and maintain internal financial controls and SOPs.
Budgeting & Planning
Prepare annual budgets for the institute and society in coordination with management.
Monitor budget vs. actual performance and provide variance analysis.
Assist management in financial planning and decision-making.
Statutory Compliance
Ensure timely compliance with all statutory requirements including:
Income Tax (TDS, returns, assessments)
GST (if applicable)
PF, ESI, Professional Tax
Society/Trust-related compliances
Handle notices and assessments from statutory authorities.
Audit & Reporting
Coordinate and manage internal and statutory audits.
Prepare financial statements, balance sheets, income & expenditure accounts.
Liaise with auditors, bankers, and regulatory authorities.
Ensure timely closure of accounts on monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
Educational Institute & Society Accounting
Manage fee accounting, grants, donations, and government funding (if applicable).
Ensure proper utilization and reporting of grants and funds.
Maintain records as per regulatory norms applicable to educational institutions and societies.
Team Leadership
Lead, mentor, and supervise the accounts and finance team.
Allocate responsibilities and ensure timely completion of tasks.
Conduct performance reviews and provide training as required.
Banking & Liaison
Handle banking operations including loans, overdrafts, and fund transfers.
Maintain strong relationships with banks, auditors, and consultants.
Assist in fundraising documentation and financial due diligence if required.
Key Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and statutory laws
Experience in educational institute/society/trust accounting
Expertise in Tally / ERP systems and MS Excel
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Leadership and team management abilities
High level of integrity and attention to detail
Educational Qualification
CA / ICWA / MBA (Finance) / M.Com
preferred
Strong practical exposure may be considered in lieu of higher qualifications
Experience Requirements
Minimum
12+ years
of relevant experience
Prior experience in
educational institutions, societies, trusts, or NGOs
is highly desirable
Proven experience in handling audits and statutory compliances independently
