The Accounts Officer is responsible for maintaining financial records, processing financial transactions, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with financial policies and regulations. This position plays a key role in managing the day-to-day financial operations of the company.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting and Bookkeeping:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all financial transactions.
Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
Reconcile accounts, including bank accounts, petty cash, and credit card statements.
Assist in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
Financial Reporting:
Prepare and submit financial reports to management, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
Assist in preparing budgets and forecasts for departmental expenses.
Provide financial analysis and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Taxation and Compliance:
Ensure timely payment of taxes (sales tax, VAT, income tax) and filing of related returns.
Maintain knowledge of tax regulations and ensure the organization complies with tax laws.
Assist in auditing activities and liaise with external auditors as needed.
Payroll Management:
Process employee payroll, including deductions, bonuses, and reimbursements.
Ensure compliance with payroll regulations, tax withholdings, and other statutory requirements.
Invoice and Payment Management:
Prepare and issue invoices to clients or customers.
Follow up on overdue invoices and assist with collections.
Manage payment schedules and ensure timely payments to vendors and suppliers.
General Administrative Support:
Assist with other administrative duties such as filing, maintaining records, and preparing financial correspondence.
Assist senior accountants and the finance department in various tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Experience:
Previous experience in accounting, finance, or a related role is preferred.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Tally, SAP).
Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas, etc.).
Knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP or IFRS).
Soft Skills:
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
Time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) is a plus.
Knowledge of financial regulations and compliance.
Work Environment:
Full-time position, typically based in an office.
Work may involve some overtime during peak periods such as month-end or year-end.
