to manage the full end-to-end bookkeeping cycle for our [UK / Australian]-based business. This is a
remote, part-time role
ideal for a detail-oriented professional who can work independently, maintain accurate financial records, and ensure compliance with all relevant tax and reporting obligations.
Key Responsibilities
Bookkeeping & Financial Management
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in Xero.
Record all transactions including sales, purchases, receipts, and payments.
Manage accounts payable and receivable, including follow-ups and reconciliations.
Perform regular bank, credit card, and account reconciliations.
Payroll & Employee Management
Process payroll using Xero Payroll.
Manage PAYE (UK) or PAYG and Superannuation (Australia).
Maintain employee records, timesheets, and leave balances.
Ensure compliance with
Single Touch Payroll (Australia)
or
HMRC requirements (UK)
.
Tax & Compliance
Prepare and lodge
VAT Returns (UK)
or
Business Activity Statements (BAS, Australia)
.
Assist with end-of-year reporting and provide accurate data for accountants.
Ensure all financial practices comply with
ATO
or
HMRC
regulations.
Reporting & Analysis
Generate monthly and quarterly reports (Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
Provide insights into business performance and financial health.
Support budgeting and cash flow forecasting activities.
Systems & Process Improvements
Manage and optimise Xero integrations (e.g., Hubdoc, Dext, Stripe, PayPal, Shopify, etc.).
Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure data integrity.
Identify process improvement opportunities to increase efficiency and automation.
Requirements
Experience & Skills
Minimum
3 years of bookkeeping experience
with
end-to-end accounting exposure
.
Advanced proficiency in Xero
(Xero Certified Advisor preferred).
Strong understanding of
UK GAAP
or
Australian Accounting Standards
.
Experience with VAT / BAS, payroll, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
Strong Excel / Google Sheets and general IT skills.
Personal Attributes
Self-motivated and reliable with strong attention to detail.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Ability to work independently and manage priorities remotely.
Discreet, professional, and trustworthy in handling sensitive financial data.
Preferred Qualifications
Xero Certified Advisor (essential or highly desirable).
AAT, ICB, CPA, or equivalent bookkeeping/accounting qualification.
Payroll certification (CIPP for UK or equivalent for AU) is an advantage.
