Position Overview
The
Accountant
will be responsible for managing financial operations related to the brokerage's day-to-day business activities, including premium reconciliation, commission tracking, expense reporting, and support for compliance reporting in line with
Australian accounting and ASIC/AFSL requirements
.
You will collaborate closely with our finance and operations team in Australia to ensure all financial data is accurate, transparent, and compliant.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
Maintain general ledger and accounting records in compliance with Australian standards (AASB).
Reconcile daily and monthly
premium payments
,
insurer statements
, and
client brokerage accounts
.
Prepare
commission statements
and reconcile
underwriter payments
.
Manage
accounts payable
and
accounts receivable
functions for the brokerage.
Assist with payroll and contractor payments (via Wise, PayPal, or Remitly).

Reporting & Analysis
Prepare monthly
Profit & Loss
,
Balance Sheet
, and
cash flow statements
.
Support management with
budget variance reports
and
expense analysis
.
Generate
monthly reconciliation reports
between client payments, insurer settlements, and brokerage commissions.

Compliance & Audit Support
Ensure all records align with AFSL, ASIC, and ATO (Australian Tax Office) reporting standards.
Support the external accountant in Australia for BAS, GST, and annual audit preparation.
Maintain documentation for compliance reviews and insurance trust account reconciliation.

Systems & Tools
Use and manage financial data in:
Xero / QuickBooks Online
CRM Systems
(e.g., Insight, Steadfast Virtual Underwriter, or equivalent)
Google Sheets / Excel
for reconciliations and reports
Collaborate with the admin and renewal team to verify data integrity.
Qualifications & Skills
Essential:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Commerce, or Finance.
Minimum 5
+ years of accounting experience
, preferably in financial services or insurance-related businesses.
Strong understanding of
reconciliation
,
journal entries
, and
financial reporting
.
Proficient in
Xero
,
QuickBooks
, or similar cloud accounting software.
Excellent Excel/Google Sheets skills (Pivot Tables, Lookups, etc.).
Strong English communication (written & verbal).
Preferred:
Experience with
Australian or UK-based accounting
.
Familiarity with
insurance brokerage accounting
, especially
premium and commission reconciliation
.
Exposure to
GST, BAS
, or
trust accounting
principles.
Soft Skills
High attention to detail and accuracy.

Excellent time management -- able to work to Australian time zones.
