The AC Technician will be responsible for the installation, operation, preventive maintenance, and repair of air-conditioning and refrigeration systems across the SSN College of Engineering campus. The role ensures smooth functioning of cooling systems in academic blocks, laboratories, hostels, and administrative buildings to maintain a comfortable and safe environment.
Install, commission, and test AC units such as Split ACs, Window ACs, Cassette units, VRV/VRF systems, package units, and chillers.
Ensure correct alignment, electrical connections, and compliance with technical specifications.
B. Preventive Maintenance
Perform periodic preventive maintenance as per schedule.
Clean filters, coils, condensers, and ensure proper airflow.
Check refrigerant levels, electrical connections, and motor performance.
Maintain maintenance logs and AMC schedules.
C. Repairs & Troubleshooting
Diagnose and resolve issues including compressor problems, gas leakages, thermostat faults, and electrical failures.
Carry out corrective actions including part replacement, gas charging, and brazing/welding.
Attend urgent breakdown calls to minimize downtime.
D. System Monitoring & Operations
Monitor performance of centralized AC systems, chillers, AHUs, FCUs, and cooling towers.
Ensure energy-efficient operation and temperature control.
Report abnormalities and take corrective measures.
E. Compliance & Safety
Follow all safety protocols during installation, maintenance, and repairs.
Ensure proper handling of refrigerants (R22, R410A, R32, etc.) as per environmental norms.
Maintain a clean and safe working area.
F. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate service records, breakdown logs, and preventive maintenance checklists.
Update AC unit inventory and assist in asset management.
Coordinate with Maintenance Engineers and Facility Managers for task planning.
3. Required Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.
Ability to troubleshoot split, window, and centralized AC units.
Experienced in refrigerant handling, gas charging, brazing, and electrical diagnostics.
Ability to read wiring diagrams and technical manuals.
Basic computer literacy for report logging.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
4. Physical Requirements
Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
Ability to lift components weighing up to 25 kg.
Willingness to work extra hours or handle emergency breakdowns when required.
5. Work Environment
Campus-wide, field-based role.
Coordination with electricians, plumbers, carpenters, and administrative staff.
Interaction with faculty and students for issue resolution.
