Job Description

An ABA Therapist works with individuals, typically children, who have developmental disabilities, most commonly Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The therapist implements behavior intervention plans, using Applied Behavior Analysis techniques to teach communication, social, and self-help skills, while also reducing challenging behaviors. The goal is to improve the quality of life for the individual and help them reach their developmental goals.

Key Responsibilities:

- Conduct one-on-one therapy sessions with clients using ABA techniques.

- Implement behavior intervention plans developed by a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).

- Collect data on behaviors targeted for reduction or skill acquisition.

- Monitor client progress and report findings to the BCBA.

- Work collaboratively with families, caregivers, and other professionals.

- Use reinforcement techniques to shape positive behavior.

- Teach clients skills related to communication, social interaction, self-care, and academic abilities.

- Assist with generalization of learned skills across settings (home, school, community).

- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of therapy sessions.

- Attend regular meetings and training sessions to improve skills and knowledge in ABA techniques.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in psychology, education, or a related field (preferred).

- Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification (preferred but not always required).

- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, particularly ASD.

- Familiarity with ABA principles and techniques.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Patience, empathy, and a commitment to helping others.

- Ability to work in a team and under the supervision of a BCBA.

Work Environment:

- Therapy sessions may take place in homes, clinics, schools, or community settings.

- The role may involve physical activity and working with clients who have challenging behaviors.

Preferred Skills:

- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.

- Ability to adapt and think creatively when working with clients.

- Understanding of child development and behavior management techniques.
