Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Corning Wireless Corning Wireless has cemented its place in the small-cell industry by being the preferred indoor 5G RAN vendor for Tier 1 operators in the US, providing highly scalable, secure, virtualized, open RAN and optical fiber connectivity based 5G small-cell networks in mmWave and Sub6 bands. Areas of competencies include System Design and Architecture, PHY/MAC/Scheduling and RRM/SON Algorithms, Layer 1, 2 & 3 Protocol SW Architecture and Implementation, Real Time Embedded SW and FW on x86 CPUs and FPGA, IP Networking and Cybersecurity, Cloud-native Virtualized SW development, DevOps, and System Performance Optimization. The Staff Engineer within the System Performance and Optimization team is responsible for characterization and optimization of Corning 5G/4G RAN system performance across key subsystems such as PHY, MAC, RRM, SON, etc. with a view to deliver predictable, stable, and high network performance.

Job Responsibilities

• Actively contribute to the creation of product and software requirement specifications in line with 3GPP and ORAN standards and customer-driven requirements with a focus on KPIs related to system performance

• Create performance focused test plans, automation test suites and testbeds for system testing - both in standalone and interoperability scenarios, and system performance characterization

• System performance characterization and validate product specifications by planning and executing test runs and simulations.

• Collect and process test metrics to identify and interpret system performance gaps .

Analyze test reports, identify gaps, and work closely with the SW development and system engineering teams to identify root causes and their resolution

• Replicate issues reported from the field, especially issues leading to system performance degradation

• Coordinate with Corning's global engineering teams Technical Skills Required

Relevant Industry Experience

o 8-10 years of hands-on experience of 4G-LTE and 5G system performance testing

o Experience with cloud-based distributed infrastructure (RAAS) and tier-1 operators/OEMs will be a big plus o Good knowledge of 5G-NR/4G-LTE 3GPP specifications and protocols, including PHY, MAC, RLC, RRC, PDCP, SDAP layers

o Solid understanding on concepts such as DL/UL Scheduling, Power Control, Beamforming, RRC configuration, RRM, SON, MIMO, and mobility

o Exposure with test tools including Protocol Analyzers, XCAL/QXDM, Wireshark, Spectrum Generator and Analyzers, UE and Core Simulators

o Exposure to issues relating to Wireless System Performance, both in lab and field . Domain Skills o Strong knowledge of wireless systems, including ORAN-compliant 5G and 3GPP 4G/LTE infrastructure o Familiar with TCP/IP, vLAN, Virtualization, Cloud, and Kubernetes will be a plus . Test and Test Automation o Experience with test automation frameworks and customizations

o Decent knowledge of least one test scripting language, such as python

o Well-versed in software and system testing best practices

o Experience of working in an agile product development environment (DevOps)

• Customer handling experience will also be a big plus Soft Skills Required
