Job Description

A Rolling Mill Operator's primary responsibility is to operate and maintain hot or cold rolling mills, reducing or forming metal into desired shapes and dimensions. They set up and adjust the mill, control speed, monitor operations, and ensure quality by adjusting rolls and other equipment, as well as using measuring instruments.
Key Responsibilities:
Operating and Maintaining Rolling Mills:
Set up, operate, and maintain hot or cold rolling mills to produce metal products like plates, sheets, foil, and rods.
Adjusting and Monitoring Mill Operations:
Adjust rollers, buffs, guides, and other equipment according to specifications, monitoring the process for any issues like curling, splitting, or buckling of the metal.
Quality Control:
Measure and inspect rolled metal, using instruments like micrometers, to ensure it meets specified dimensions and quality standards.
Material Handling:
Operate cranes, fork trucks, and other equipment to handle materials in and out of the mill.
Safety:
Follow safety guidelines, understand controls, and ensure safe operating practices in the mill environment.
Troubleshooting and Maintenance:
Troubleshoot machine issues, coordinate with mill helpers, and assist with maintaining mill support systems like motors and oil systems.
Documentation and Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate records of production metrics, equipment performance, and compliance with safety protocols.
